In the 24th century the Ferengi people are an interstellar race. Their original home was the planet Ferenginar, which remains the cornerstone in the Ferengi Alliance. This is where the government, under leadership of Grand Nagus Zek, resides.

The Ferengi Alliance ruthlessly embraces capitalism, and as a consequence hereof great importance is placed upon the sanctity of contracts. If a Ferengi citizen breaks a contract he will have his business license revoked and all of his assets will be seized. He will subsequently be treated as a Pariah by all others.

The Ferengi abide to strict ethical guidelines known as the Ferengi Trade By-laws. These laws are enforced by an agency called the Ferengi Commerce Authority.

The most important places in the Ferengi Alliance are also situated on Ferenginar. The Sacred Marketplace is the center of commerce. In the middle of the marketplace the Tower of Commerce reaches for the sky. It is the highest structure in the Alliance and the administrative center of Ferenginar.
